High-Risk Payment Gateway for Shopify

Shopify Payments works until it does not. If it has declined your application, banned your store, put a hold on your funds, or does not support your product, SwissPay offers a third-party gateway and Shopify plugin on PayPal rails. Want an alternative for any other reason? That works too.

Quick answer

SwissPay is a third-party payment gateway and Shopify plugin for merchants who cannot use Shopify Payments, or who want an alternative. If Shopify Payments declines, bans, freezes or does not support your store, you can apply to have SwissPay process your card and PayPal-wallet payments, with strong approvals on PayPal rails and card and wallet vaulting for subscriptions.

Why Shopify Payments may not work for your store

Shopify Payments, which runs on Stripe, restricts many legal businesses and can decline, ban, freeze funds, or exclude unsupported products. Other merchants are approved but still want to switch for a subscription-ready processor or PayPal-wallet acceptance. SwissPay offers a third-party gateway and Shopify plugin for both cases, whatever the reason you need one.

Declined or banned

Shopify Payments declined your application, banned your store, or your vertical is not allowed under Shopify's terms.

Unsupported or frozen

Your product is not supported by Shopify Payments, or funds were frozen, held or reserved.

Credit or chargeback history

Bad credit, prior processor history, or a chargeback ratio that tripped an automated review.

You just want an alternative

A subscription-ready processor, or card and PayPal-wallet acceptance in one checkout.

How the SwissPay gateway and Shopify plugin work

SwissPay installs on Shopify as a plugin, so your store connects a third-party payment provider instead of, or alongside, Shopify Payments. Once connected, SwissPay processes the card or PayPal-wallet payment on PayPal rails and settles USD to your own bank. You keep your Shopify storefront and dashboard, and card details are vaulted for rebills.

SwissPay is a PayPal-managed payment facilitator operated by MintAds Inc.: it boards and underwrites your business in-house, so you do not need your own PayPal account. The Shopify plugin connects SwissPay as a third-party payment provider for your store; a WooCommerce plugin, a REST API, and hosted checkout are also available. Payments run on PayPal rails: cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), the PayPal wallet, and PayPal Pay Later (Pay in 4, Pay Monthly). Card and wallet credentials are tokenized and vaulted for subscriptions, trials, and rebills; SwissPay handles chargebacks and PayPal disputes with automated evidence submission. Funds settle in USD to your own bank account on a T+2 basis.

Which Shopify businesses use a third-party gateway

Any Shopify store owner who cannot use Shopify Payments, or who wants an alternative, can use a third-party gateway. That includes stores in supported high-risk verticals, subscription and trial businesses, stores recovering from a ban or a hold, and healthy stores that simply want subscription billing or PayPal-wallet acceptance alongside cards.

Declined, banned or frozen

Stores declined, banned, or frozen by Shopify Payments that need to keep selling.

Subscription and trial businesses

Recurring and trial models that need card and wallet vaulting for reliable rebills.

PayPal wallet and Pay Later

Stores that want the PayPal wallet and Pay Later alongside cards.

Supported high-risk-adjacent verticals

Stores in the supported categories below, or that simply want to switch for subscription features or support.

Supported verticals on Shopify

Many legitimate verticals are hard to place on Shopify because Shopify Payments restricts them, yet they are core business for SwissPay. If you sell supplements or nutraceuticals, run health and wellness subscriptions, offer telehealth or GLP-1 through a licensed pharmacy, or sell crypto and digital assets, SwissPay underwrites the category on PayPal rails. No guaranteed approval.

Nutraceuticals and supplements

Health, wellness and telehealth

Crypto and digital assets

What changes when you switch your Shopify payment provider?

Your store, theme, products and order history stay on Shopify. What changes is the provider that processes the payment. Before you switch, check your Shopify plan, export your records from the old provider, and update the policy pages customers rely on. A clean switch avoids surprise disputes and fees.

Shopify charges an additional transaction fee on most plans when a third-party provider replaces Shopify Payments, so factor that into your pricing. Open disputes stay with the old provider until they close, so keep a copy of that dispute record.

Update your refund and contact pages so the statement descriptor and support details match what customers will see. If Shopify Payments closed your store, keep the closure notice. Underwriters ask why the last account ended, and a clear answer helps.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shopify allow high-risk businesses?
Shopify allows many businesses, but Shopify Payments restricts a long list of higher-risk categories such as supplements, telehealth, crypto and others. Stores in those categories usually need a third-party payment provider to process cards. SwissPay supports these categories and underwrites each store in-house on PayPal rails.
Can I use a third-party payment provider on Shopify?
Yes. Shopify lets merchants connect an approved third-party payment provider instead of, or alongside, Shopify Payments. SwissPay installs as a Shopify plugin and processes your card and PayPal-wallet payments on PayPal rails, settling funds to your own bank account. A WooCommerce plugin, a REST API, and hosted checkout are also available.
What happens if Shopify Payments bans my store?
If Shopify Payments bans your store, your Shopify storefront stays up, but you can no longer take card payments through Shopify Payments and any held funds follow Shopify's payout policy. You can connect a third-party payment provider to keep selling. SwissPay accepts applications from stores Shopify Payments has declined or banned and reviews each one in-house.
Can I sell subscriptions on Shopify with SwissPay?
Yes. SwissPay supports subscriptions, trials and rebills with card and wallet vaulting, and it handles chargebacks and PayPal disputes with automated evidence submission. That makes it a strong fit for supplement, health and wellness, and telehealth stores billing on a recurring basis.
Do I need my own PayPal account to use SwissPay on Shopify?
No. SwissPay is a PayPal-managed payment facilitator operated by MintAds Inc. It boards and underwrites your business in-house on PayPal rails, so you accept cards, the PayPal wallet, and PayPal Pay Later without opening your own PayPal account. Funds settle in USD to your own bank on a T+2 basis.
Does SwissPay guarantee approval on Shopify?
No. No legitimate payment provider can guarantee approval. Approval depends on your business, your vertical, and your documentation. SwissPay supports high-risk verticals that Shopify Payments restricts, such as supplements, telehealth and crypto, with strong approvals on PayPal rails, but the outcome always depends on underwriting.
